Basic Information
Baoding No.1 High School was established in 1906. After being identified as one of the key schools of the country in 1954, Baoding No.1 High School was then listed among the 24 key middle schools in Hebei province by Hebei Educational Department in 1978. In 2000 No. 1 High School was appointed to be the Model School for senior education of the whole city. During the last 100 years, the school has trained and brought large numbers of talented students, who are spreading home and abroad, the most famous ones among whom are four academicians, world-famous biologist Niu Manjiang, metallurgist Wang Zhixi, geologist Tan Xichou，and physical and chemical expert Zhang Yukui, as well as the key player/ top player of the National Women’s football team Wang Liping, famous actor Cunli. At the present time, the school possesses 310 first-class teachers and 67 classes with 4500 students. With modest spirit and rigorous style of study, the school motto of Baoding No.1 High School is “Strict, Realistic, Industrious and Creative”. Concentrating upon both arts and science, Baoding No.1 High School has formed a century-old academic atmosphere and promoted all-round healthy development of students. Holding the educational spirit “run a high-quality school, and produce internationally competitive talents for colleges and universities”, Baoding No.1 High School is moving in the direction of national famous school.
School Environment
Located on the south bank of Fuhe River, No.39 Sanfeng Road, Baoding, Baoding No.1 High School is a gardenlike school with an area of 150 mu. She possesses first-class, comprehensive, modern teaching facilities. All classrooms are equipped with advanced equipment, such as computer, large-screen projector, objects projection, TV and so on. There is a fully functioning laboratory which covers 6000 square meters, a well-stocked library with an area of 2800 square meters, a multi-functioned gymnasium with a total construction area of 3800 square meters，a standard plastic stadium，football field lawn and tennis court. The 7500-square-meter Comprehensive Building serves as dinning rooms and bathrooms. The student apartment buildings can accommodate 2800 students. All of these provide students with a platform leading to success.

Principal Tianlie is the Winner of special government allowance. She has been awarded “March-Eighth Red-Banner Pacesetter”, “National May1 Labor medal”, “Outstanding Communist Party Member”, “The National Backbone Teacher”, “National Excellent Parent”, “Expert teacher of Hebei province”. She is also named as morality pace-setter of Hebei province, expert with outstanding contributions of Hebei province, top-100 superior women of Hebei province. The Prime Minister, Wen Jiabao granted her an interview before the Teachers’ Day in 2003. In 2007 she was elected as deputy to the seventeenth National People's Congress.

Baoding No.1 High School possesses first-class teachers, including 8"special-grade teachers", 110 high school senior teachers, 9 national excellent educators and national excellent teachers, 10 national backbone teachers, and 41 provincial excellent educators and provincial backbone teachers. 140 teachers have won the first prize in competitions of Baoding Pace-setter of Teaching, Teaching Experts, and High-quality Class. Teaching Work
Baoding No.1 High School sticks to the teaching-centered management, combining faithfully carrying out regular teaching with educational innovation. Teaching students in accordance with their aptitude and to develop students’ interests as well as improve students’ ability, teachers organize classes with cooperative inquiry and teacher-student interaction methods so that students can shift from passive learning to active inquiry. We emphasize both on teaching and scientific researching and actively carry out school - based educational research. We have also undertaken more than 100 scientific researches of key projects of national, provincial and municipal level. Remarkable Achievements have been made in educational scientific researches. So we earned the reputation of the Advanced Unit of the National Education and Scientific Research. Under the joint efforts of teachers and students, Baoding No.1 High School produces Gaokao champions in arts and science every year. There is an annual growth of the number of students who pass the College Entrance Examination. Baoding No.1 High School is named as “the Cradle of Gaokao Champions”.
School Characteristics
Since 2002, the school has begun to accept good quality but financially disadvantaged students from Hebei into the “HongZhi” classes. During the 3-year study, students in this class are awarded about 9000 yuan of financial aid from the government. The set-up of “HongZhi Class” has brought about simple school spirit and the industrious learning style.
The preparatory class for pilot training prepares talented students for National aerospace industry. Students in this class will get 10 extra marks in the College Entrance Examination. And every year they will win a 4000 yuan of state grants. Many students have been gloriously admitted to universities of Aeronautics and Astronautics, among whom Zhangbo outshines the other women reservists.
Baoding No.1 High School is the first school to send students to study in Singapore. This program was approved by the Department of Education of Hebei Province. In the last few years, more than 130 students have been admitted to the National University of Singapore and Nan Yang Technology University free of charge. In recent years, we are developing study-abroad programs in Europe and America. Several students have gone to Europe and America for further studies.
Activities
Combining teaching with activities, Baoding No.1 High School develops several school - based curricula. With the establishment of many students associations such as the Literature Club, the Reporter Station, the Chinese Flute and Xiao Association, the Culture Forum, the School Choir, the Symphony Orchestra, we provide students with a platform to show their talents. We have also established education bases in key universities so as to help students broaden their horizons and enhance students' ability of innovation as well as the ability of social practice.
